The death of Didier Guillaume, former socialist senator and ex-minister of agriculture under Emmanuel Macron

“A humanist in the Republic”greeted Emmanuel Macron upon the announcement of the death of Didier Guillaume. Former president of the Drôme departmental council, former socialist senator, former minister of agriculture, Didier Guillaume died following a “rapid illness”on January 17 at the age of 65. Minister of State of Monaco, which is equivalent to a position of Prime Minister, since September 2, 2024, he was very close to Prince Albert II who expressed his “tremendous sadness” and declared a day of national mourning. Officer of the Legion of Honor, father of two sons, he married, on December 21, 2024, with Béatrice Frécenon, his former chief of staff.

Born on May 11, 1959 in Bourg-de-Péage (Drôme), Didier Guillaume began his career as a public treasury agent. Socialist municipal councilor in Bourg-de-Péage in 1983, he became mayor in 1995 (until 2004). Federal Secretary of the Socialist Party in 1986, he was involved politically: regional advisor from 1992 to 1998, general advisor in 1998, he chaired his department, in which he was firmly rooted from 2004 to early 2015. In 2008 he was elected senator of Drôme (re-elected in 2014).
