Bad start to the year at this distributor furniture and objects of decoration. Maisons du Monde announced this Thursday, January 23, 2025, the elimination of 91 jobs in its Paris and Nantes headquarters, or nearly 12% of its workforce. No store in the group is affected, management indicated toAFP.
“Priority to voluntary departures”
These deletions will be made by giving “priority […] voluntary departures, including responsible measures negotiated with social partners,” the brand said in a press release. “There could ultimately be outright redundancies, in a few months, after the call for volunteers and reclassification procedures,” added François-Melchior de Polignac, the general director.
These job cuts aim to “gain agility and efficiency”he justified.
The brand, which has more than 4,000 employees in France, is in difficulty and its sales have continued to decline between 2022 and the third quarter of 2024, in a context of generalized difficulties for the sector after a strong post-Covid rebound in 2021.
-Maisons du Monde announced in March 2024 an “Inspire Everyday” transformation plan, including cost reductions of 85 million euros over three years, in the hope of returning to growth in “2025-2026”.
Over the first nine months of 2024, it achieved sales down by more than 11% compared to the same period of 2023, at 704.7 million euros. Its turnover had already fallen by more than 9% in 2023 compared to 2022, to 1.13 billion euros.
