A disastrous explosion. In Barcelona, one death, one seriously injured and many people “slightly” affected are to be deplored due to a chemical accident which occurred this Tuesday, January 21.
According to initial reports, a reservoir of “methyl acetate” is to blame. It exploded during maintenance work, according to the Civil Protection Service of Catalonia. This tragedy took place in the area where the company Terminales Portuarias SL (Tepsa) operates, very close to the district of Sants-Montjuïc (south of the city).
Some local media published images of an impressive fire.
-The city’s firefighters indicated on their social network that they were “working to put out the fire.” They add that “Barcelona’s chemical risk plan has been activated” and the city municipality has preventively confined the staff of neighboring companies.
However, the authorities claim that “the risk of poisoning for the population has been ruled out”.
