Last year Anatomy of a fall had triumphed at the Lumières awards just before landing half a dozen Oscar nominations. Emilia Perez should experience the same fate this year.
The 30th Lights Awards Ceremony – which crown the best films and talents of the French 7th art – was held last night at the Forum des Images in Paris, and largely crowned the film of Jacques Audiard. The members of the Académie des Lumières, international press correspondents from 38 countries, praised his musical, giving it 5 trophies including Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Actress (Karla Sofia Gascón) and Best Music (Camille and Clément Ducol). Audiard is the first director to win the title of best film for the 3rd time (after 2006 and 2019) and that of best direction for the 4th time (after 2010, 2013 and 2019). A good omen before the Oscar nominations which will fall this Thursday and the César nominations (on January 29).
In the rest of the rankings, the Lights crowned About Sangare as Best Actor for The Story of Souleymane while Twenty gods of Louise Courvoisier won two trophies (best first film and male revelation with Clément Faveau). Flow is the Best Animated Film and The seeds of the wild fig tree of Mohammad Rasoulof won the prize for best international co-production. The entire list below:
