The Lunch Gardens in Messancy and Libramont will close their doors, that’s for sure. March is maintained and, for Arlon, the door is not yet entirely closed even if the chances of maintaining it are considered very low. According to union sources, 40 to 50 people are affected in the province of Luxembourg by these closures.

Two of these four restaurants are franchisees (Libramont and Arlon), the other two, Messancy and Marche, are integrated into the company. This has found a buyer for part of the activities. But this does not seem to give credence to the figures for Luxembourg brands, except for Marche.

Franchised or integrated is not a criterion for closure

This difference does not seem to have been relevant for the future of the restaurants since both Libramont, which is franchised, and Messancy, which is integrated, were announced their closure. Arlon, which is also a franchisee, is threatened with closure while Marche, which is taken over, is integrated into Lunch Garden.

Created in the 1960s by the GIB group, the GB restaurants took the name Lunch Garden after the group’s merger with Sarma-Nopri which also owned restaurants. Over the last 25 years, Lunch Garden has experienced three resales and a notable capital increase which changed the majority shareholding. In 2020, the firm also fired its managing director.
