Alexander Zverev To Face Either Novak Djokovic Or Carlos Alcaraz In Australian Open Semifinals

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev defeated Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open in four sets to reach the semifinals in the men’s singles category. The duo went toe-to-toe in the first two sets, with Zverev mustering the two-set lead by running the table in tiebreakers. Paul halved the deficit in the third set by breaking Zverev twice.
The German regained his focus in the fourth set and sealed his victory on the third matchpoint 7-6 (1), 7-6 (0), 2-6, 6-1. Consequently, the 27-year-old reached his third semifinal in Melbourne after reaching the same stage in 2020 and 2024. He was ousted by Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal last year.
Alexander Zverev defeated Lucas Pouille, Pedro Martinez, Jacob Fearnley, and 14th seed Ugo Humbert before the quarterfinal match against 12th seed Tommy Paul. Despite the loss, Paul is set to make his top-10 debut in the ATP Ranking after the 2025 Australian Open.

Alexander Zverev’s next opponent at the 2025 Australian Open will either be 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic or Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz. The duo is set to play the second quarterfinals in the men’s singles draw on January 21. Alcaraz, the 3rd seed, and Djokovic, the 7th seed, will butt heads after their encounter at the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals, which the Serb won.
In the other quarterfinals, defending champion Jannik Sinner will take on home favourite Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton will face Lorenzo Sonego. Both matches will be played on January 22.
