The fire almost completely destroyed the Madelipêche seafood processing plant, a major employer in Cap-aux-Meules.
The factory employed around sixty people during the transformation period. The fire was accidental.
The presence of chemicals inside, including freon and ammonia, forced the evacuation of neighboring residences in a large area.
-Most of the evacuated citizens were relocated to the civic center of Cap-aux-Meules.
