An Indiana resident won $500,000 in a scratch-off game, won during a gift exchange with her family.
A very nice Christmas gift. A resident of Indiana, in the United States, won $500,000 by scratching off a gambling ticket, won during a gift exchange with her family for Christmas.
The young woman, Emily Hickox, who celebrated her 25th birthday on Christmas Day, had a pleasant surprise after carrying out a “white elephant gift exchange” with her loved ones, a sort of Secret Santa in which the gifts can be exchanged.
To the Michigan Lottery, she confided that she was not initially the recipient of the ticket. “My cousin bought the ticket for the gift exchange at our family Christmas party,” she explained.
An unexpected gift exchange
It was her father who had won the ticket, and Emily had received the one his father had brought, “a flashlight”. Her father wanting his lamp back, Emily inherited the ticket.
-Scratching the ticket, the young woman remained in disbelief. “I was expecting to see $50,000, so when I saw the extra zero, I was speechless. I couldn’t understand that I had just won $500,000!” explained the young woman.
The latter said she wanted to buy a new car, but also share part of her earnings with her father and cousin.
