An arson attack claimed the lives of a 41-year-old mother and her five-year-old son, in Miramas, in Bouches-du-Rhône, seriously injuring her granddaughter, who is still hospitalized, as well as their 69-year-old father.
According to information from RTL, the father’s two eldest sonsfrom a first union, are known for drug trafficking and numerous other crimes. They did not live there, a neighbor of the family assures that one of them is in prison and that the other had just been released, the murderers therefore did not hesitate to attack their father, their stepmother and their two half-brothers and sisters aged 5 knowing that the two men would not be present.
According to sources agreeingthe preferred avenue is therefore that of a criminal act linked to these criminal activities of the two brothers: settling of scores, revenge, or act of intimidation, the investigation must establish this precisely.
One of the children in very serious condition
The events took place on Thursday January 16. After 2 a.m., individuals entered the lobby of this seven-story building. On the ground floor, where the family lives, they set fire to a jerrycan of gasoline which instantly set the door on fire. The fire spread inside and notably charred the children’s bedroom which is located right at the entrance. The family was unable to escape because the windows of the home are equipped with grills.
The other residents of the building are in shock and Marie, their neighbor on the first floor, is still shaking. “I heard something like an explosion. And then, like a big gust of wind, everything slammed. I mainly heard the screams. I was used to hearing them scream, but like this, no,” she told RTL.
The results are dramatic. 41-year-old mother diesone of the twins, aged 5, is in very serious condition. His sister is still hospitalized. The father, aged 69, suffered burns to his face and hands and was released from the hospital.
