In Cédric Yambéré’s live broadcast on his Twitch channel, the former captain of the Girondins, Yoann Barbetreturned to the criticism he received for his departure from the club for Saudi Arabia, against the backdrop of the fact that he would not have the love of the jersey. Could a return, one day, be possible?
“If we can talk about it?” Yes, we can talk about it (smile). I’m in my club at the moment, it’s going very well, I like it, and I’m adapting as I go. My wife likes it more and more. I signed for one year with an option, we don’t know how it will happen at the end of the season. I don’t close any doors. I’m good here, if I have to extend here, I would be very happy to extend here. And then there it is. And if one day I have an opportunity to come back, in one, two, three years, whatever, I don’t know, we’ll see. I am not closing any door on my future, whether here or elsewhere, or returning to the club. We’ll see where everyone is in their journey, whether it’s the club or me. But of course, inevitably, I left with a bitter taste by force of circumstances, even if I would have liked to stay. And if I could have stayed… I received a lot of criticism where people compared me quite a bit with Andy Carroll, like he plays for the jersey, etc., that he doesn’t play for much. But if I had earned half of what he earned in his career, I would have stayed playing in Bordeaux for zero without any problem (laughs). But, unfortunately, that’s not the case, and I also have a family life.”
Moreover, the former Bordeaux captain is well aware that the reactions of the supporters have mainly been positive.
“Ah but of course, there are a lot of positive messages too, completely. You can’t please everyone. When I left the club, I’m not going to lie, I had 95% positive messages, despite the circumstances and how it ended. But you know how human beings are, they remember more the few negative messages than the hundreds of positive messages. I’m putting things into perspective, and I thank everyone for that. It’s like that, it’s life choices. We would all have preferred to stay and not have these questions to ask ourselves. Circumstances have brought us to this point today.”
