It was around 7:20 p.m. this Thursday, January 16, when firefighters were called to a mattress fire in a room at the Heinlex psychiatric hospital in Saint-Nazaire. The fire was extinguished by health facility staff before emergency services arrived. However, the Sinus application (standardized digital information system) was implemented to count the number of victims. Twenty-three people were treated by emergency services.
According to the departmental fire and rescue service, a 37-year-old woman was transported to the Saint-Nazaire hospital center in relative emergency. The twenty-two other victims who had been assessed were able to remain on site. Furthermore, the disaster caused the transfer of patients from neighboring rooms to other units.
The intervention required the presence of thirty-two firefighters. It is not known whether the fire was intentional or accidental. An investigation will have to determine what caused the fire.
