The quarter-finals are behind us and four Jupiler Pro League teams will compete for the two places in the Croky Cup final: Club Bruges, Genk, Antwerp and Anderlecht.
The quarter-finals of the Croky Cup were spectacular, with matches rich in goals. Club Bruges won 3-0 against OH Louvain, Genk crushed Sint-Truiden 4-0, Antwerp made short work of the Union by winning 5-1 and Anderlecht won 0-1 at Beerschot.
There are now only four left who can still hope to lift the trophy on May 1 at the Roi Baudouin stadium. Bruges will face Genk and Anderlecht will challenge Antwerp. Unlike previous rounds, the Croky Cup semi-finals are played back and forth. The home advantage is therefore reduced, except in the case of overtime or even penalties.
Bruges – Genk
The first of the two Croky Cup posters will pit Club Bruges against Genk, the two current best teams in the championship. A final before the letter, one would be tempted to say. With the clash being played over two matches, it is difficult to clearly identify who will come out on top. Both teams are equal on paper and their form is also good. However, the people of Bruges seem to be on a more upward slope than that of the Limburgers, having not experienced defeat in Belgian competitions since September 22. In the league last weekend they showed how strong they are at the moment by crushing Anderlecht 0-3. The transfer window could also influence this duel.
The Club can count on quite a few players in great form, like Christos Tzolis who scored twice against the Louvanists. In the industry, Ardon Jashari has established himself as a sure bet. The Swiss impresses even though he was not necessarily expected.
On the other hand, Genk also has solid arguments to put forward, Three Arokodares at the head of the gondola. The 24-year-old Nigerian striker has already scored 14 times in 24 matches this season, in all competitions. His physique will greatly annoy the Bruges defense, that’s a certainty. On the right flank, Zakaria El-Ouhadi will also give the Gazelles a hard time. The Limburgers showed in the championship that they had resources. Reduced to ten, they won 2-0 last weekend against Louvain.
Anderlecht – Antwerp
The other match in this last four of the Croky Cup will be between Anderlecht and Antwerp. Antwerp were impressive against the Union in the quarter-finals, scoring 5 goals against Brussels. A manita that no one expected, but which illustrates well what this Great Old can be: an offensive machine. In the Jupiler Pro League, Antwerp have already scored 36 goals, with boys as dangerous as Vincent Janssen, Gyrano Kerk and Tjaronn Chery.
The residents of Bosuil will be keen to redeem themselves after the draw conceded this weekend against Beerschot. A 1-1 against the rival, but above all the red lantern, which is a bit of a stain. And when we know that Anderlecht also struggled against them, this could well promise a close double encounter.
Anderlecht is not to be outdone, totaling the same number of goals scored in the league. Kasper Dolberg is a formidable weapon in the Anderlecht offensive line. However, the dynamic is less positive among the Mauves. Their qualification at Beerschot was difficult against a harmless opponent. And in the championship, the defeats pile up. Anderlecht remains on three defeats in a row, including one last weekend in the Topper against Club Bruges. A 0-3 setback which showed the gap that existed with the top, but which also confirmed the very poor current form of the team.
