When you drive without a license and at the wheel of an uninsured vehicle, you make sure you have fueled up, but also that you do not drive in areas prone to police checks.
This young 18-year-old and his friends had ticked all the wrong boxes on Tuesday evening. Since they logically crossed paths with the police at Allée Pierre de Coubertin in Lyon, the hotbed of prostitution behind the Gerland stadium.
The police quickly noticed two things in the passenger compartment: the driver was not wearing his seat belt, and above all he seemed panicked when he saw them.
A chase started when the quartet refused to comply. The driver even caused damage to the police car by hitting its doors.
The chase continued on the M6 then the A6. And it was finally 20 minutes later that the officials’ task was made easier by the escapees running out of fuel near Villefranche-sur-Saône.
Unfavorably known to the police, the occupants of the vehicle, aged 18 to 22, were taken into police custody.
Five agents filed complaints for damage and endangering the lives of others.
At the end of their hearing, the passengers were released, no charges were brought against them.
The driver was to be tried in immediate appearance this Thursday.
