Future opponent of Gaël Monfils in the 3rd round of the Australian Open, the world number 4 made a donation to people affected by the fires in Los Angeles.

The American Taylor Fritz, 4th player in the world, announced Thursday that he would donate the $82,000 in winnings won in the first round of the Australian Open to help the victims of the Los Angeles fires.

“It’s really the least I can do. Southern California is my home and LA (Los Angeles) has been my home for a long time.”said the 27-year-old after qualifying for the third round of the Australian Major.

Fritz, who lives in California, won Thursday against Chilean Christian Garin 6-2, 6-1, 6-0. “I just want everyone to stay safe, it’s just insane what happened”he added, inviting everyone who can to make a donation. “A lot of people really need it”.

The deadly fires started more than a week ago in California, fanned by gusts of wind, and left at least 24 dead in the second largest city in the United States. Firefighters are still trying to contain these fires which could be the costliest ever recorded in the country with a toll now estimated at $275 billion.
