Which Maryland county is home to the true financial capital of the United States?

Wicomico County, Maryland, is emerging as an unexpected leader in financial activity, with Salisbury named the top “real” financial capital in the United States, according to a recent study conducted by Journo Research in collaboration with Plus500. This analysis looked at 387 core statistical areas across the United States to identify the top financial hubs, and Salisbury managed to come out on top.

Although many associate financial dominance with metropolises like New York or San Francisco, the data highlights smaller metropolitan areas as true powerhouses of economic activity. These regions, including Wicomico County, offer vibrant business opportunities, a strong job market and a thriving ecosystem for entrepreneurs.

The study assessed each area based on the number of financial businesses per 100,000 residents, assigning scores out of 10 to reflect their impact. Salisbury stands out with an impressive density of 224.35 businesses per 100,000 residents, far outpacing other metropolitan areas. Despite a smaller overall job market, Salisbury’s high concentration of finance-related businesses makes it a prime location for entrepreneurs and small business owners. The city’s robust local economy and business-friendly environment reinforce its unexpected position as a leader in the financial sector.

Here is the list of the 10 main financial centers in the United States:
