Nintendo has casually released a trailer showcasing the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console. The video confirms several leaks and rumors about the design, but also leaves fans hungry for more details, which they will have to wait for until April.

After years of rumors, leaks and much anticipation, Nintendo has revealed the Switch 2, its next console and the successor to 2017’s Nintendo Switch. The reveal comes via an official trailer showing the design of the new portable gaming console. It also reveals some details on game compatibility.

The Nintendo Switch 2 shown in the 2+ minute video confirms earlier leaks such as a larger screen, larger and redesigned Joy-Cons, a redesigned kickstand, and a USB-C port at the top next to the jack audio, among other changes.

The Nintendo Switch 2 trailer also shows us the redesigned dock with more prominent rounded corners and a glimpse of what is believed to be Mario Kart 9.

While the teaser confirms many design features, it does not mention any technical specifications. It is therefore not certain whether the Switch 2 has an LCD or OLED screen, among other technical details.

According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 will play games exclusive to the Switch 2 and will also support physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. However, not all Nintendo Switch games may be supported or fully compatible with the new console.

Nintendo specifies that more details will be revealed later and then announces that a Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2 will take place on April 2, 2025. There will also be hands-on events in different parts of the world, including New York, Los Angeles and Dallas.

Registration for hands-on events in the United States begins on January 17 and continues until January 26. The practical sessions will take place in April, after the announcement.
