The Union of French-speaking Booksellers of Belgium (SLFB) has just announced the creation of the Independent Bookstores Prize. The approach is original: booksellers select five works published in 2024. The final vote will go to the public.
This prize for independent bookstores is a newcomer in the landscape of French-speaking literary prizes. This first edition will highlight a work of (adult) literature published during the preceding year. In the Center region, two independent bookstores are participating in the process:
- The Queen’s Bookstore in Binche
- the Public Writer in La Louvière.
Five novels were selected by a committee made up of twelve booksellers:
- Novel of Bramble and Thorn by Lucie Baratte
- The Flickering Light of Haratischwili
- The Little Maid by Bérénice Pichat
- Ilaria de Gabriella Zalapi (prix fémina des Lycéens)
- Shoot by Alexandre Valassidis
Booksellers who select novels. A public of readers who vote, this is something of a change from the classic patterns of literary prizes. The public vote will be open until Sunday March 16, the closing date of the Brussels book fair.
You can vote either
- in your local independent bookstore.
- via the website www.prixdeslibrairiesindependantes.be
