On the French side in the men’s draw, everything is going well in the best of all possible worlds. Five tricolors reached the third round of the Australian Open, a first since 2017. Gaël Monfils and Corentin Moutet were added to Bonzi, Fils and Humbert. The first, eternal, defeated the German Altmaier in three sets, while Moutet, after a difficult start to the match, beat the American Krueger.

For women, it’s a huge fiasco. Varvara Grachava, the last Frenchwoman in the running, was eliminated by the German Lys. There is therefore no longer any tricolor in the third round of the Australian Open, a first since 2020.

Otherwise, the favorites held their place, starting with Jannick Sinner, solid winner of the Australian Schoolkate, valiant in front of his audience, after losing the first set. The American Fritz was quick, while Rune escaped the Berrettini trap in four sets. De Minaur, Musetti, Shelton and Kachanov will also be there in the third round. The sensation Fonseca, who had beaten Andrey Rublev in the first round, was nevertheless eliminated by Sonego, after a breathtaking five-round match. Also note the elimination of the American Frances Tiafoe, seeded number 17.

In the women’s draw, Iga Swiatek made short work of her opponent, with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Kasatkina and Rybakina also won. Madison Keys, seeded number 19, also advances to the third round.
