Nintendo fights back with its lawyers after presenting an imitation at CES

The matter of reproducing the Switch 2 takes on new dimensions day by day. As a reminder, this model was presented by Genki, an accessories manufacturer, during CES 2025. And Nintendo did not hesitate to send its lawyers directly to the stand.

  • Julien Tellouck from Game One was at the Genki booth at CES 2025
  • Genki explained to him that Nintendo sent its lawyers to his booth
  • Genki is not his first lie, we believe it is average

Certainly, the story doesn’t end. As a reminder, it all starts when Genki presents a reproduction of the Switch 2, explaining that it is based on the real second. Information immediately refuted by Nintendo, although it is very silent when talking about its new console. The accessories manufacturer finally admitted to having exaggerated: its production was only based on leaks. But the story doesn’t end there.

Nintendo would have sent its lawyers, we don’t believe it

French journalist Julien Tellouck, who needs no introduction and has worked on Game One since 2002, was at CES 2025. The expert reveals that he was able to manipulate the reproduction of the Switch 2 and that Genki revealed to him that Nintendo sent its lawyers to his stand. The accessories manufacturer would be calm, believing that no rules have been broken since there is no contractual commitment or confidentiality clause with the Japanese manufacturer.

However, we take this information with a pinch of salt: Genki is not at its first lie after presenting a reproduction of the Switch 2 claiming that it is based on the real console. It took a lot of pressure for the accessories manufacturer to admit the truth. So to imagine that Nintendo would make the effort to send lawyers directly to its stand… we don’t think it’s fair. The Japanese manufacturer wasn’t even at CES 2025.

So what? Nintendo reportedly sent lawyers just to get to the booth of an accessory maker who, presumably, is just looking for to capitalize on the popularity of the Switch 2 to sell its products? Whatever we think, Genki has succeeded in its marketing coup by being talked about for several days for nothing, literally. Well done to them, can we imagine?
