The Stans room saw handball and football “clash” – at least during a penalty shootout.

National football team coach Murat Yakin attended a training session of national handball team coach Andy Schmid. Yakin was impressed by the handball players: “I am impressed by the way you train. Even the jerseys get torn.” And added: “I would like to see that at home too. I’m happy to be here. Because it’s always nice to get together with athletes. A lot of meetings I have are in a suit.”

At the end of training in the Marshals’ room, Yakin engaged in a penalty duel with Andy Schmid. Nati goalkeeper Mathieu Seravalli is in goal. Schmid easily won 3:1. Yakin: “At least I was able to get one to the bottom!”

In the evening, the coach of the national football team has dinner with the national handball team and addresses a few words to the team. He talks about stressful situations and the eternal duel against Germany. In the space of a year and a half, the Nati faced the Germans four times, the next time on Friday in the second match of the world championship. Murat Yakin: “Even though I’m not a handball expert, I know that Germany is the favorite. But that’s just a talking point until kickoff. Once the match begins, the Germans must feel that they are encountering an opponent who wants to hurt them. I will follow your performances at the World Cup with interest on television.”

After the exchange, Andy Schmid presents Murat Yakin with a national handball jersey bearing Yakin’s legendary number 5. Schmid: “His calm demeanor impresses me. The way he handles pressure, which is even higher in the football business, is remarkable.”

The national team traveled to the World Cup camp in Silkeborg, Denmark on Monday. The first match against the Czech Republic will take place on Wednesday. All information is available on the Handball Suisse Instagram and Whatsapp channels as well as in the newsticker on handball.ch.
