It was at the start of this Sunday afternoon that Dikeledi passed as close as possible to Mayotte, about a hundred kilometers from the southern coast of Grande-Terre. The strong tropical storm is now moving away, but has resumed its intensification.

The rains were intense, but fortunately the wind barely exceeded 100km/h. The main consequences of the phenomenon this Sunday evening were the flooding of streets and mudslides, particularly in the south of the department, which was more affected.

The 79 accommodation centers welcomed those who feared for their homes, or who simply still do not have a solid roof since Chido’s passage. Nearly 15,000 people were able to find shelter there.

The mayor of Dzaoudzi Labattoir, Mikidache Houmadi, however regrets the lack of allocated resources, more precisely food.

“The conditions are in place to welcome the affected population (…), but we lack food, we were not accompanied like during Chido. (…) I cry scandal. We cannot manage centers without assistance (…) The State must ensure that the means are there so that we can make places available to accommodate the victims. Those who are there are hungry.

The red alert is expected to remain in effect for several more hours, as the danger is still not over. Forecasters fear that the high tide expected overnight will still lead to heavy flooding, due to difficulties in draining the water.
