Swippitt: what is this miracle solution that recharges your smartphone in the snap of your fingers?

Seen in the aisles of CES 2025 which was held until January 10, 2025 in Las Vegas, a funny box would be capable of recharging your smartphone in just two seconds. What is this crazy promise?

The Swippitt, named after the company that developed this system, is presented as an innovative device designed to recharge a smartphone extremely quickly. The promise of charging your smartphone in two seconds seems a little too good to be true. There is obviously a “trick”. In fact, it is not your smartphone that is recharged, but the external battery integrated into a dedicated case. It is therefore not the “naked” smartphone that you must insert into the device, but the terminal equipped with its “Link” shell, which has an additional battery. It is she who is changed here at lightning speed.

The appearance of a toaster

The device has the appearance of a toaster in which you slide your smartphone and in which the battery change takes place. It is in fact a real docking station that can accommodate and charge several 3,500 mAh batteries simultaneously. In absolute terms, this means that several people in the same household could change batteries in no time.

This ingenious system of interchangeable batteries allows almost instantaneous recharging.

Compatible only with iPhone 14, 15 and 16 for now

Currently, the system is only compatible with the iPhone 14, 15 and 16, until it is extended very quickly to Android devices. A mobile application accompanies the device, allowing in particular to monitor the state of charge of the different batteries.

The concept of “recharging” your smartphone in two seconds is more than attractive, but it is clear that it ultimately only involves changing a worn out removable battery for another, fully charged one.

Although we are still far from being able to charge the battery of our smartphone in a few seconds, progress in this area has been quite spectacular in recent years, especially from Chinese manufacturers.

Technologies capable of recharging in less than 10 minutes

In 2024, Realme unveiled 320 W fast charging technology, capable of fully recharging a battery with a capacity of 4,420 mAh in less than 5 minutes.

Xiaomi and Oppo also offer technologies capable of fully recharging a (high-end) terminal in less than 10 minutes.
