The courts of Tangier have decided to examine current cases by videoconference, a practice activated in the justice sector during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Again, it was because of the spread of a disease that this preventive measure was taken.

Indeed, the local prison of Tangier 2 emerged at the top of the list of establishments most affected by the spread of measles among prisoners and staff, with 23 cases out of the 41 reported by the General Delegation to the Prison Administration and reintegration (DGAPR) in a press release. This is what justifies the decision of the Tangier courts.

According to Al Ahdath Al Maghribia from this Monday, January 13, the decision to process cases by videoconference only concerns inmates at Tangier 2 prison, while face-to-face trials continue for inmates at Asilah prison, where no cases of measles have been reported. was recorded.

The DGAPR had revealed, over the last week, cases of measles among inmates of several penitentiary establishments across the country, with a total of 41 confirmed cases, recalls the daily.

According to a press release, all the preventive measures stipulated in the health protocol put in place by the supervisory ministry were applied as soon as symptoms of measles appeared among certain new prisoners in several penitentiary establishments.

The newspaper also explains that after the spread of measles in the regions of Souss-Massa, Drâa-Tafilalet and Chichaoua between last August and September, as well as in Chefchaouen in November, the Ministry of Health and social protection launched, as part of its strategy to combat measles, “a vast national complementary and reinforced vaccination campaign against this disease».

The aim was to return child vaccination levels to those before the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, until last October, due to the spread of the virus among the population, the total number of measles cases had reached around 20,000, with 107 deaths, half of which were children, the daily reports.
