The heavy rainfall in recent days in Maine-et-Loire has led to a significant rise in rivers, particularly from Maine to Angers. This Friday, its level reached 4.42 meters and should continue to increase during the weekend, according to Vigicrues forecasts.
The intense rains, observed since the end of last week, have caused a swelling of the rivers supplying the lower Angevin valleys. Faced with these excesses, Vigicrues has raised the level of vigilance of the department from green to yellow. A stabilization of levels is expected at the start of next week, with the expected lull in precipitation.
Preventive closures in the city
In response to this situation, the City of Angers has decided to close several infrastructures as a precautionary measure. The Reculée promenade was closed to traffic as of this Friday morning.
The Le Quai theater car park was also closed in anticipation of a probable flood during the day on Saturday. In addition, the Saint-Serge Patinoire car park will be closed from tomorrow morning, due to the increasing risks linked to rising water levels.
A mobilized crisis unit
Local authorities are monitoring developments with particular vigilance. At the request of the mayor of Angers, a “flood vigilance” unit was activated this Friday. This body, in close collaboration with State services and the Departmental Council, coordinates the actions necessary to manage rising water levels and prevent risks.
Municipal services remain mobilized in real time to inform citizens and take appropriate measures as the flood progresses. Angevins are invited to exercise caution, particularly in areas close to watercourses, and to follow the safety instructions communicated by local authorities.
