The national team will participate in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), following an agreement with the Confederation of African Football (CAF). However, this will not happen with the local selection.
The 8th edition of the African Nations Championship will take place from February 1 to 28, 2025. Currently, 17 teams are scheduled to participate in the tournament. Algeria decided not to participate. Likewise, Egypt, South Africa and Tunisia made the same decision.
The reasoning behind this decision stems from potential disruptions to the domestic league schedule. Teams with more than three players participating in the tournament could ask for their matches to be postponed, thus placing the Professional Football League in a very delicate position.
However, the situation took a significant turn in the hours that followed. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has reached an agreement with CAF allowing Algeria to participate in CHAN.

According to our colleagues from El-Khabar, the FAF has established certain conditions for CAF to accept the participation of the national team in the tournament. The first condition is that the CHAN is not postponed until next June.
The second condition is that the national team is made up of a mixture of young internationals (U17, U20…) as well as a few senior players. Interestingly, it will not be Madjid Bougherra, who recently confirmed his return to the A selection, who will manage the local team; rather it will be the two coaches Foued Chiha and Karim Kaced.
Additionally, as CAF aims to add two more teams to reach a total of 19 CHAN participants, a small tournament will be organized soon. In addition to Algeria, it will also include Egypt, South Africa, Comoros, Malawi, Gambia and Gabon. Algeria is exempt from the first round of this tournament and will only play one qualifying match for CHAN 2025, which will take place in Tanzania.

It is worth noting that the draw for CHAN 2025 will take place on January 15 in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
