No big design change for the Rugged SSD Pro5, which uses the lines designed by Neil Poulton: it just changes from black to blue to signify the change of connections.
Up to 6.7GB/s!
We could have hoped for a reduction in size/weight, but Thunderbolt 5 often requires better cooling of the controllers, but also of the SSDs which are necessarily more used. Since it does not incorporate a fan, passive cooling therefore requires a larger radiator than USB C.
LaCie announces ultra-fast read/write speeds, up to 6,700 / 5,300 MB/s where Thunderbolt 3/4 topped out at around 3 to 3.5 GB/s. With the OWC model, we were around 5GB/s read/write, which is a little below our LaCie.
The capacities offered are quite classic, with 2 or 4TBwhere Samsung and SanDisk already offer 8TB models (but not yet in Thunderbolt 5).
The storage needs of creative professionals have grown exponentially, especially for those integrating generative artificial intelligence into their work
said Lance Ohara, vice president of endpoints marketing at Seagate. The LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 perfectly handles these demanding workloads and data-intensive applications. This makes it an invaluable tool for experts seeking exceptional transfer speeds and file editing capabilities.
Weather resistant
LaCie is known for offering very robust drives, which are very useful for all creators who are often outdoors.
So, the Rugged SSD Pro5 withstands drops of up to
height of up to three meters and offers an IP68 protection rating (dust and water), which allows you to overcome most complicated climatic conditions. Note that this disc includes 45% recycled materials (by weight)thus reducing its environmental impact
The Rugged SSD Pro5 is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4 and USB-C 10/20/40 Gbps under Windows, macOS and iPad Pro on devices providing a minimum of 15W 1.2A.
It costs €439.99 (2 TB) and €699.99 (4 TB)which is really not cheap, but comparable to the (rare) offers on the market. It should be on sale in the coming days.
