Reactions are multiplying on the North Shore and in Quebec following the announcement of the resignation of Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. The region’s MP Marilène Gill and the Bloc Québécois are calling for an election quickly. The Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador welcomes its desire to place a “particular emphasis on reconciliation”.

The MP for Manicouagan, Marilène Gill believes that the passage of Justin Trudeau constitutes a harmful legacy for Quebec. “The Prime Minister made the right decision in leaving office. History will judge Justin Trudeau, but it will be up to Quebecers to judge the record of the Liberal party. Since 2015, we have seen an extraordinarily centralizing government at work, whose interference has been incessant, she says.

By highlighting Prime Minister Trudeau’s efforts for reconciliation, First Nations leaders hope after his departure for a political transition that will mark a pivotal moment “Relations with First Nations must remain a priority for the years to come, regardless of party” .

The Quebec Federation of Municipalities (FQM) took the opportunity to salute its contribution to the development of the regions of Quebec. “I highlight the support provided to local municipalities in Quebec through the Canada Community Futures Fund, a most appreciated contribution to our investments in our infrastructure,” declared the president of the FQM, Jacques Demers, in a press release.
