The start of the new year is often synonymous with resolutions and adjustments. In the legal world, family law professionals say that the first Monday in January is the day of the year when the most people consult for information on separation or divorce.
Me Stéphane Pouliot, associate lawyer in family law at Pringle & Associés in Laval, Quebec, explains that although separation or divorce decisions can be made before the holiday season, the end of the festivities means a return to reality .
« People won’t want to come and spoil the children’s holiday season. […] they have the delicacy of not doing it precisely before the holiday season so as not to bring an additional emotional charge. »
