This is why the flood forecast service entered orange alert level early Sunday afternoon. Local flooding which could lead to flooding and damage was feared. The Luxembourg authorities have therefore invited the population to be vigilant.
In its bulletin published this Monday at 2 p.m., MeteoLux indicates, however, that the flood alert issued for the north of the country has been lifted. The risk was lifted this morning for the south of the country.
A yellow wind alert across the country this Monday
MeteoLux issues a yellow alert for the entire national territory this Monday. It will be in effect from noon to 6 p.m. “The strongest wind gusts are expected from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. They can reach or slightly exceed 90 km/h,” specifies MeteoLux.

“The precipitation of the last few hours and the thaw have led to an increase in the levels of the rivers of the Alzette and the Sûre,” the authorities further specified this Sunday. The localities of Hesperange, Pfaffenthal, Mersch and Ettelbruck were particularly monitored. “Water levels on rivers in southern Luxembourg will continue to rise until Monday morning. Exceeding the “orange vigilance rating” at the Alzette measuring stations is expected,” noted the authorities early Sunday evening.
“Although maximum water levels at most stations on the Alzette remain below the ‘red alert rating’, a slight temporary exceedance at the Ettelbruck station on the Alzette cannot be ruled out. .” This overtaking actually took place during the night, before an ebb.
Water levels in northern Luxembourg had also increased on Sunday evening. In Diekirch sur la Sûre and Bollendorf, the “orange vigilance rating” was exceeded in the evening. “A drop in water levels is expected for Monday morning,” however, tempered the authorities.
