Burkinabè Dr Labia Irène Ivette Ouoba presented, on December 4, 2024 in Bangui, her letters of credence to the Central African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Central Africans Abroad, Mrs. Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, then to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Guismala Hamza, as new resident representative of the Food Organization of the United Nations and Agriculture (FAO) in the Central African Republic.

Dr Labia Irène Ivette Ouoba is now the resident representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the Central African Republic. Receiving Ms. Ouoba during the presentation of her credentials, the Central African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Central Africans Abroad, welcomed her host and told her of the pleasure she has in working with her. She wished him every success in his new mission. As for the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, he expressed his eagerness to benefit from the support of the FAO and the expertise of Ms. Ouoba to meet the challenges linked to food security in the Central African Republic.

Ms. Labia Irène Ivette Ouoba was appointed on November 5, 2024 as FAO representative in the Central African Republic by the director general of the organization, Mr. QU Dongyu.

The first Burkinabè woman to occupy this position within the FAO, Ms. Ouoba will have the heavy responsibility of planning and implementing all the organization’s programs as well as activities relating to projects financed by the FAO and its partners in the Central African Republic.

Until her appointment to this position, Ms. Ouoba was, since November 2018, Regional Coordinator of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Program for Sub-Saharan Africa at the FAO Regional Office for Africa, in Accra, Ghana.

From Marien N’Gouabi high school in London

Ms. Ouoba holds a doctorate in applied biochemistry and microbiology from the University of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, as well as a master’s and bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and microbiology General of the University of Ouagadougou. She also attended Marien N’Gouabi high school in Ouagadougou.

She began her career in 2003 as a researcher in the Food Technology Department at the National Center for Scientific and Technological Research (CNRST) in Ouagadougou. From 2004 to 2006, she was a researcher at the Department of Food Sciences at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. From 2006 to 2012, she was a research fellow for the microbiology research unit at London Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom, where she worked on the valorization of traditional fermented foods from Africa. From 2012 to October 2018, she was a senior research advisor and lecturer at London Metropolitan University, the University of Westminster and the University of East London as well as an independent expert for international organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Commission.

Mme Ouoba succeeds Mme Katepa Kalala.
