Murder of a young shepherd and resurgence of violence, a tragedy that chills Thiès

The city of Rail started the year 2025 under a heavy pall of sadness. On January 2, two dead bodies were found in Thiès, in appalling circumstances. Among the victims, Sadibou Kâ, a young 24-year-old shepherd, whose tragic death shocked his family and his native village, Thiaoune Peulh.

The poignant story, reported by L’Observateur, highlights the growing insecurity in the region and the anxiety of the populations.

Sadibou Kâ: a broken destiny

Sadibou Kâ left her village on the evening of December 31 to go to the Promenade des Thiessois, with the aim of immortalizing the end-of-year festivities with a few photos. According to those close to him, the young man, known for his calm and simplicity, wanted to return home that same evening, but his journey ended tragically along the way.

His lifeless body was discovered two days later, lying among garbage in Medina Fall, near the rails. It was a child who first raised the alarm. The police, dispatched to the scene, found that Sadibou had been shot in the chest.

“We do not know the motive for this murder, but we think it was an attack,” the victim’s uncle told L’Observateur. The Kâ family experienced the anguish of not knowing where their son was before his father recognized his body from the photos presented by investigators.

A man of peace, torn from his family

Originally from Thiaoune Peulh, Sadibou Kâ was described as a respectful and uneventful young man. A shepherd by profession, he had recently married and was preparing the arrival of his wife at the marital home. “He was always with his mother or his flock. His death deeply surprised us, because he had no disagreement with anyone,” his relatives told L’Observateur.

Tragically, this family had already been struck by a similar tragedy. Sadibou’s sister had also lost her life in violent circumstances, leaving a veil of incomprehension and pain hanging over the community.

Another body discovered the same day

The discovery of Sadibou Kâ’s body was not the only shock for Thiès on January 2. In Diassap, near Bridge 5, another man was found lifeless, killed by bricks. According to initial indications, the victim, still unidentified, could be a motorcycle driver from Jakarta. This place is infamous for being the scene of numerous fatal attacks targeting motorcycle taxi drivers.

A worrying increase in violence

These two murders are a stark reminder of the security challenges facing the populations of Thiès and the surrounding area. In Medina Fall, as in Diassap, residents live in fear in the face of increasingly frequent attacks.

The families of Sadibou Kâ and the unidentified man, as well as the entire Thiès region, are impatiently waiting for light to be shed on these heinous crimes. The investigations launched by the police will be crucial to allay fears and bring justice to the victims.

In the meantime, in Thiaoune Peulh, the funeral of Sadibou Kâ is being held in an atmosphere of deep mourning. His community mourns the loss of a simple, promising man, symbolic of the many lives shattered by rampant insecurity.
