Three people, including a 5-year-old child, were hospitalized in a state of absolute emergency.

This Saturday, January 4, 2025 in Angoulême in the Charente department, a building was evacuated, after carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a barbecue lit in an apartment where there were eight people at the time of the events.

La Charente Libre indicates that the fire broke out around 11 p.m., after lighting the charcoal barbecue, surely used as a means of heating. Three people, including a 5-year-old child, were hospitalized in an absolute emergency.

The toxic fumes spread quickly

During the fire, the toxic fumes which quickly spread throughout the home caused respiratory distress in a 5-year-old child.

The young boy, as well as a 26-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man, were transported to hospital in a state of absolute emergency by firefighters.

The five other people were also contaminated with carbon monoxide, but for three of them, hospitalization was not necessary, our colleagues specify.

After the intervention of the firefighters in this four-story building, which mobilized them “part of the night”, the residents, evacuated for safety reasons, were able to return to their apartments before dawn.
