Since the NFL decides to play almost every day, Black Monday gets a little head start. Following Saturday night’s loss, the Browns wasted no time finding a scapegoat: Ken Dorsey.
ESPN announces that Cleveland’s offensive coordinator was fired this Sunday. He walks out the door with Andy Dickerson, offensive line coach.
Statistically, the Browns’ choice is not illogical. Ken Dorsey led the NFL’s 28th-ranked offense in yards gained this season. Worse, Cleveland is last in the league in points scored.
Ken Dorsey not helped
Despite everything, it is difficult not to see some mitigating circumstances for the offensive coordinator who took office at the start of the season. First, Kevin Stefanski only let him play calls during the year, just after Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles tendon on October 20.
Then, it was necessary to work with Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and recently Bailey Zappe. Nothing to get excited about, even if the first one brought its usual dose of brilliance.
Throwers who played behind a line that conceded 66 sacks. Only the Bears have done worse.
Kevin Stefanski will look for a third offensive coordinator since taking office in 2020. But that will not solve his problems at the most important position in the league: that of quarterback.
