In a landmark moment for English Football, Thomas Tuchel has officially taken the reins of the national team, becoming the first German to do so. Its training ground is none other than St. George’s Park, an establishment of unparalleled excellence.
London – Last Wednesday marked a significant day! With the start of the new year, Thomas Tuchel has assumed his role as coach of the England national team. The former FC Bayern Munich coach is now in charge of the football country.
His contract runs until the summer of 2026, with a clear ambition to win the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It’s an ambitious undertaking that Tuchel is tackling with the help of the impressive infrastructure at his disposal.
St. George’s Park, the training center for the English national team, covers 135 hectares, offering everything a coach could want. The complex, which cost more than €120 million, includes 14 football pitches named after legends such as Gary Lineker, Gordon Banks and David Beckham. The “Sir Bobby Charlton Pitch” even has the same grass as Wembley Stadium.

Felix Magath would no doubt appreciate the center’s unique features: it includes a running hill and an “Outdoor Leadership Center” for team-building activities. Additionally, there is a futsal room, several swimming pools, an underwater treadmill, as well as a cryotherapy chamber and a high altitude chamber.
A 228-room Hilton hotel provides accommodation for players and support staff. The culinary offerings range from fish and chips to vegan burgers, which will no doubt please Tuchel, who has mentioned that he tries to eat vegetarian.
After a hasty departure from FC Bayern, Tuchel is ready to hit the ground running. However, the fifty-year-old faces a difficult task. His appointment was not greeted with universal enthusiasm, particularly from the English tabloid press, which criticized the decision.

The Daily Mail called the appointment “a black day for England” and called for a patriotic manager. Tuchel responded calmly, saying: “We want to become world champions. If we achieve that, it doesn’t matter what nationality is on my passport.”
To adequately prepare for his new role, Tuchel plans to closely observe England’s players at their clubs. Last weekend he attended matches like Tottenham Hotspur against Newcastle United (1-2) and Brighton & Hove Albion’s draw against Arsenal.
On Sunday evening he was at Anfield for the classic match between Liverpool and Manchester United (2-2), accompanied by his new coaching staff, made up of Anthony Barry, Henrique Hilário, Nicolas Mayer and James Melbourne.
Additionally, Tuchel and his team are planning a visit to St. George’s Park to meet Football Association staff and hold introductory discussions. These measures aim to ensure Tuchel is fully prepared to make his first team selection in March. (smk)
