Cross-country skiing: “good for morale”, says the Norwegian
He had warned. After his fall during Saturday’s skiathlon in Val di Fiemme (Italy), Simen Hegstad Krueger had some“aggression” to resell. It must be said that he saw his chances of getting on the final podium completely destroyed.
On Sunday, he took his revenge and brilliantly won the climb of Alpe Cermis, the final test of the Ski Tour. Only the Austrian Mika Vermeulen was able to follow him when he attacked. “It was good for morale”he declared on Viaplay, after his victory.
This is the third time that the Norwegian has won at the top of the alpine ski slope.
“He was super aerial, he had gilette (sic). A Krueger of the great days. He didn’t even collapse upon arrival. Imperial »greeted Maurice Manifestat the microphone of Eurosport.
“It’s absolutely incredible that we can climb this slope so quickly and effortlessly”for his part declared the commentator of public television NRK, Jann Post (quoted by The online newspaper).
A nod to history: Simen Hegstad Krueger raised both hands to the sky, as did Petter Northug Jr in his prime. Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo had also already imitated his elder, as a tribute.
