This Sunday, January 5, enters a new week marked by a mild spell. Throughout France, and at the start of the week, the mercury should exceed 10°C, before a sharp drop from next Thursday, January 9.

After the snow and freezing rain this Saturday January 4, France returned to rather mild temperatures this Sunday January 5. An improvement in the thermometer has pushed Météo-France to abandon the orange and yellow alerts for “snow-ice”.

In fact, throughout France, temperatures will exceed 10°C. In the northern half, the mercury should record between 11°C and 14°C despite a grayish and sometimes rainy sky, notably in , , , and .

In the southern half, some clearing is expected in , , and . Overall, temperatures will be above 10°C and could reach 16°C in . They will, moreover, be very low in Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Gap.

However, despite these temperatures, still high compared to last week, rain is expected to become widespread this Monday, January 6. It should concern a large part of the north and the North-East as well as the entire southern half. Clearings are expected in the North-West. This is the case, for example, of Brest, Cherbourg, Alençon, and .

Up to 18°C ​​in the south, winter temperatures in the north

This episode should not last all day since a calm is expected in the evening from Monday to Tuesday, according to Météo-France forecasts. In Paris, , , , Toulouse and , the sky should be clear.

And this scenario should last during the day of Tuesday January 7, despite the presence of a few rainy episodes in Metz, , , Nantes, , La Rochelle and Bordeaux. In terms of temperatures, these should be up compared to last week with the mercury possibly reaching between 6°C and 12°C in the northern half, and between 5°C and 16°C in the southern half.

However, this lull should not last long since, again according to Météo-France forecasts, the rain should return on Wednesday January 8. It should concern a large part of the territory, ranging from Paris, Metz and Brest to La Rochelle and Limoges. A drop in temperatures could be seen in the northern half, particularly in Lille, Amiens and Reims where maximums will not exceed 5°C.

Thursday January 9 is expected to be a rainy day and temperatures in the northern half are expected to begin to drop. Thus, in the Paris region, the mercury should not exceed 6°C. In Rouen and Lille, the maximums will reach 5°C. Even more, snow should be back in the Hauts-de-France region. Snowflakes are expected in Amiens, where maximums will not exceed 4°C.

In the south, although there will be rain, the cities of , and will benefit from clearings and exceptional temperatures, where maximums could exceed 18°C.

During the day of Friday January 10, the drop in temperatures should be confirmed. In the northern half, the mercury should be between 3°C and 10°C while the maximums will be between 11°C and 15°C around the Mediterranean.
