The next week promises to be very busy for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and could be decisive as the pressures he faces continue to intensify.

Mr. Trudeau began his year 2025 with a first public appearance on Friday to sign the book of condolences of former American President Jimmy Carter, following a holiday season where he was very discreet.
The Prime Minister was not present during the end-of-year television reviews, having canceled all his interviews following the resignation of his Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, a little more than a week before Christmas.
Since this shock announcement, many party deputies have called for his departure.
“This is a disavowal that has rarely been seen in the history of the Liberal Party,” says lecturer in the Department of Political Science at UQAM, André Lamoureux. “Currently, the collapse of the Liberal Party is absolutely unheard of.”
“No one would have thought a few years ago that this would happen, but it is happening now,” he adds. “The more this progresses, the more serious the disaster will be for the party.”

The future of the Prime Minister will certainly be discussed during the party’s regional caucuses which will take place on Monday and the national caucus which will take place on Wednesday.
During this last caucus, a long meeting, which could last up to six hours, is also planned.
“When we lose the Quebec caucus, the Atlantic caucus and the Ontario caucus, and several MPs in the rest of Canada and we are leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, we must have the capacity to introspection, to look in the mirror a little,” says Jeremy Ghio, director of public relations at TACT.
In addition to MPs within the Liberal Party themselves who are calling for Trudeau’s departure, the opposition parties seem more united than ever in their desire for federal elections to be held in the coming months.
The Conservative Party also plans to table a motion of censure on Tuesday at the Standing Committee on Public Accounts to try to bring down the government.
The Prime Minister should finally conclude his very busy week on Thursday by attending the funeral of former American President Jimmy Carter.
