The day after the acquisition of midfielder Fabian Herbers, CF Montreal was again active on Saturday.
He first announced the loan of striker Matías Cóccaro to Atlas FC, a Liga MX club in Mexico.
The agreement includes a fee for the loan and a purchase option when it matures, i.e. at the end of 2025.
Cóccaro was acquired by the Bleu-Blanc-Noir through a transfer from CA Huracàn, of the Argentine first division, towards the very end of 2024.
The 27-year-old Uruguayan, however, was quite timid in attack, settling for four goals and one assist in 22 games, including 10 starts, last season.
Another environment
The Montreal organization made a second announcement at the beginning of the afternoon, agreeing a one-year contract with three option years in 2026, 2027 and 2028 to midfielder Michael Adedokun. Adedokun was taken in the first round by CF Montreal, ranked 13th, during the most recent Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.
“We are happy that Michael is officially joining the group,” declared the president and CEO of CF Montreal, Gabriel Gervais, in a press release. He is a dynamic attacking midfielder with a strong goalscoring instinct, 1v1 skills and good creativity in the final third. We believe he is ready to take the next step in his career by continuing to progress with us.”
A product of the Ohio State University Buckeyes, Adedokun had 11 goals and 11 assists last season, which earned him the NCAA Player of the Year.
On Friday, CF Montreal awarded a two-year contract to another midfielder, Herbers, a 31-year-old German who was a free agent and who has several years of experience in MLS.
