Jake Evans has become a key depth player for the team since being drafted 207th overall in the 7th round of the 2014 draft. Despite his late selection, Evans has worked tirelessly to carve out a role in the NHL, showing resilience, intelligence and adaptability.
A product of the University of Notre Dame, where he was captain his senior year, Evans developed into a center two-way blessed with strong defensive instincts and a knack for contributing in critical moments.
Now a veteran of the young Montreal team, Evans continues to be a model of perseverance and professionalism and he is having the best season of his career with already 23 points in 38 games.
He could become a free agent at the end of this season, but it is increasingly obvious that he should be kept in Montreal, especially since he is still relatively young at 28 years old.
He had said in recent weeks that there are still no contract negotiations underway, but Renaud Lavoie had some good news during tonight’s match.
Renaud said on TVA Sports during the game against Colorado that he spoke with Jake Evans before the game in Chicago and Evans told him that he wanted to be clear, that he wanted to continue his career in Montreal. Renaud also mentions that the team wants to keep him.
This means that both want the same thing, excellent news which could very likely lead to a contract extension. We hope so!
