Melanie Hasler reached the podium in monobob at the World Cup in Winterberg. The 26-year-old Aargau came second behind German Lisa Buckwitz. We were 9 hundredths of a second short of our first victory on the difficult track in the small mountain town of Rothaar. The Swiss is delighted with a second World Cup podium in monobob; she came second in La Plagne last season. She has already finished in the top 3 five times in two-person competitions.
Hasler started the second round with a handicap of only 3 hundredths over Buckwitz. The German, who always achieves excellent starting times, took advantage of this advantage. In handling 2, she took 11 hundredths from the Swiss while pushing. Then the lead was only slightly reduced until the finish.
Annen with a convincing first
Debora Annen completed the large Swiss balance. She finished fourth in her first season. Thanks to an ambitious second round, the junior monobob world champion and daughter of bobsleigh legend Martin gained another place. Annen set a track record in the second run in 58.46 seconds and passed world champion Laura Nolte (GER). The track record was then broken by the top three in the final standings. Lisa Buckwitz ultimately lowered the record to 58.25.
