Sara Hector impresses during the giant slalom competition in Kranjska Gora. The Swede braved the ice slope in Slovenia and triumphed largely ahead of the talented Albanian Lara Colturi. Emma Aicher finished in the points ahead of Lena Dürr.
Sara Hector was unfazed by the demanding conditions and claimed her second World Cup success of the season with a furious first run. The Olympic giant slalom champion from Beijing won with a clear lead ahead of Albanian Lara Colturi, 18 years old (+1.42 seconds) and New Zealander Alice Robinson (+1.52 seconds).
Aicher is the best German – Dürr also scores
With the exception of Hector, all the athletes had to struggle against the slippery slope at the foot of Triglav. Germany’s top rider Lena Dürr, who is currently competing in the slalom (which takes place on Sunday), and 21-year-old Emma Aicher did well. Aicher passed Dürr on the second lap and finished 24th, with Dürr close behind.
Fabiana Dorigo clearly missed the second round in 58th place, as did Jana Fritz. The 19-year-old World Cup newcomer was eliminated before the first split.
Different League: Hector Defies a Cold
“Actually, I didn’t want to, I had a cold», explained Hector after his first appearance on the sports show: “Maybe I’m tired of taking a break, but I also like ice cream.» And the frenzied spectators of Kransjka Gora were able to admire it impressively. Hector had a spectacular first run in the morning.
The giant slalom world vice-champion took the lead from the fourth start and took a second lead over Colturi (+1.13 seconds), who moved from the Italian association to the Albanian association in May 2022. The latest time was five years ago. In the second heat, Hector even increased his lead further.
The best Brignone driver is eliminated
Italian star Federica Brignone didn’t get along at all. The winner from Sölden and Semmering overshot the goal and therefore had to give up her leading position in the Giant Goal World Cup to Hector.
