Things get serious at the United Cup. It’s time for the semi-finals in Sydney with an enticing Poland-Kazakhstan to start the day.
In the opening, Hubert Hurkacz faced Alexander Shevchenko.
The two-time Masters 1000 winner gained momentum in this tournament and after losing his first two singles matches against Ruud and Machac, Hurkacz beat Harris in the quarters.
Well launched, the 16th player in the world dominated this match head and shoulders and won against Shevchenko (6-3, 6-2 in less than an hour of play), perfectly launching his team on the path to ‘a second consecutive final in the competition.
In the process, the clash between Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina was worth the detour. The match was closer and after a fight lasting more than two hours, it was the Pole who had the last word (7-6, 6-4).
This is Swiatek’s third victory against Rybakina in seven meetings. Thanks to this success, Poland will play well in the final.
Beaten by Germany last year, Poland stumbled on the last step but has the opportunity to do even better than in 2024.
This will require the United States or the Czech Republic who face each other in the other semi-final.
As for Kazakhstan, it was a more than successful first participation in the United Cup with a final four.
