The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has canceled her upcoming trips due to severe pneumonia. A spokesperson for the European Commission announced this on Friday. The 66-year-old will not attend her outpatient appointments during the first two weeks of January.
Von der Leyen works from his hometown of Hanover and is in close contact with his team, the spokesperson continued. The canceled meetings include a speech in Lisbon and a trip to Gdansk planned for Poland’s presidency of the Council of the EU. The visit to the Polish port city will be postponed to a later date.
Ursula von der Leyen is the first woman to head the powerful European Commission. Over the summer, she was confirmed in her role for another five years. However, she is not letting her health restrictions stop her completely and continues to carry out her duties.
