Why the famous spaghetti dish scene almost didn’t appear in Lady and the Tramp ?
Having become totally cult, this iconic dish almost didn’t appear on the film’s menu! Indeed, as explained by an anecdote told in the making-of of the cartoon appearing in the bonuses of the DVD of the film released in 2006, Walt Disney himself purely and simply wanted to delete it. The famous producer thought that viewers would never believe this scene and that seeing two dogs sharing a plate of spaghetti was more ridiculous than charming. But that was without counting on the tenacity of animator Frank Thomas who produced this sequence alone, without even a preparatory sketch for inspiration. His work paid off since the result was so successful that he convinced Walt Disney to keep this romantic meal in the final cut. And it must be recognized that Lady and the Tramp would not have the same charm without this cute scene!
