Darts prodigy Luke Littler made history in his sport by becoming world champion at just 17 years old.

Luke Littler was crowned world darts champion for the first time in his career at the age of 17. The young Englishman, who will turn 18 on January 21, dominated the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen, triple winner, 7 sets to 3 in the final on Friday at Alexandra Palace in London.

Luke Littler, an unfortunate finalist last year, thus becomes the youngest world champion in the history of darts, erasing from the books his opponent of the day who was world champion in 2014 at the age of 24.

Michael van Gerwen, 35, 3rd in the world, hoped to add a 4th coronation to his record after his successes in 2014, 2017 and 2019.

Luke Littler, 4th in the world, succeeds his compatriot Luke Humphries on the list.

On the Belgian side, Dimitri Van den Bergh (PDC 11) was sharply eliminated in the 3rd round (round of 32) by the Englishman Callan Rydz (PDC 43). A week earlier, Kim Huybrechts (PDC 42) was knocked out in the first round against the Irishman Keane Barry (PDC 52). Mike De Decker (PDC 24) also took the door for his entry into contention, in the 2nd round, against the Englishman Luke Woodhouse (PDC 35).
