Foreign coaches have growing impact in Liga MX Femenil

In recent tournaments, the presence of coaches born outside of Mexico in women’s soccer has increased significantly.

Similar to what is happening in Liga MX, the difference is that in Liga MX Femenil there is still a majority of Mexican coaches.

However, in recent tournaments we have seen an increase in the number of foreign strategists in women’s football.

After Chivas’ elimination in the quarter-finals, it was Mexican coach Alberto Torres who reached the semi-finals. Unfortunately, his team was eliminated from the tournament after a defeat against Monterrey, led by Costa Rican Amelia Valverde. The latter ultimately became the tournament champion, winning a historic consecutive title at the expense of the Tigers.

Four of the coaches will be Spanish, indicating a growing interest in these coaches. The other half are South Americans, with two Brazilians, a Uruguayan and a Costa Rican.

For the next campaign, there will be two fewer Mexicans, as Joaquín Moreno has been replaced by Spaniard Antonio Contreras at the helm of Guadalajara, while Uruguayan Diego Testas will take over from Mexican coach Julio Cevada at Cruz Azul.

It is worth noting that, since this campaign, five consecutive tournaments have crowned foreign coaches.
