The month of January has begun and it is time to enjoy the traditional galette des rois. This delicious frangipane dessert delights the taste buds of young and old alike, curious to know who will get the bean. Every year, the galette des rois reveals big surprises. In 2023, a little boy discovered a gold bean in his slice of pancake while in January of the same year, a baker from Calais decided to hide a small gold ingot in one of his pancakes.

Until January 31, by purchasing a galette des rois in around forty partner bakeries in France, you can win a gold ingot. More specifically, it is a 5 gram gold bar, with an estimated value of between 440 and 460 euros depending on the evolution of world gold prices.
Buy a cake to participate
This game revives an old tradition from the 18th century. At that time, wealthy families slipped gold coins into king cakes as a bean. It is possible to participate in this competition in around forty bakeries in France, in partnership with the Comptoir national de l’or. There will be several winners since each bakery will have its winner.
“To participate, simply go to the partner bakery and purchase a pancake,” explains the Comptoir national de l’or, according to France Info.
