On January 2, around 11 p.m., emergency services were called to a snowmobile trail located near Chemin Tonnerre in Gracefield, in Outaouais.
A snowmobiler, a 34-year-old man, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.
A reconstructionist from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) went to the site to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding this event.
“The investigation continues in collaboration with the coroner. Alcohol or drugs could be contributing factors to this event,” it is stated in a press release from the SQ on this subject.
Another snowmobile accident also took place the same day. Around 12:45 p.m., SQ police officers were notified that an inanimate man was found in the Zec du Gros-Brochet, in Mauricie.
The man, aged 71 and from La Tuque, appeared to have lost control of his snowmobile and hit a tree. There was no direct witness to the event, which had already happened several hours before the police were alerted.
The man was transported to hospital and was confirmed dead later that evening. A collision scene investigator went to the scene to assess the scene.
