The Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) said the incessant confrontation had made it virtually impossible to execute the arrest warrant against Mr. Yoon, which was issued by a Seoul court on Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2024). .
The IOC said it halted the execution at around 1:30 p.m. local time (04:30 GMT) due to concerns about the safety of investigators at the scene, expressing deep regret over Mr. Yoon's attitude in refusing to comply with legal procedures.
The investigative unit added that it would decide what action to take in the future after a relevant review of the situation.
On Friday, January 3, a group of IOC prosecutors and investigators attempted to arrest the deposed president at the presidential residence in central Seoul for his imposition of martial law, but had to give up executing the arrest warrant after having clashed with agents of the presidential security service.
