What if planting a tree became a foundational step in the education of our children? What if lending a hand to farmers meant committing to the climate and biodiversity? What if combining education, agriculture and living together made it possible to outline today the society we want for tomorrow?
This is the joyful, concrete and unifying mission that has given itself the Children and Trees association since 2020 by inviting the young generation to plant trees with and among local farmers.
This educational and civic mission, approved by National Education, allows students to ddiscover the agricultural world, its challenges and levers through pedagogy active in the classroom and in the fields. By inviting children to connect with those who nourish us as well as the Living, it is about placing them at the heart of the solutions to transmit to them a taste for commitment.
After four years of fruitful existence, the association launches its fifth season of planting trees on agricultural land with schoolchildren across France.
At the end of this winter, these are nearly 20,000 schoolchildren and college students who will have been mobilized as actors of change by lending a helping hand to 500 farmers, winegrowers, breeders, cereal growers, market gardeners, beekeepers throughout Francein the planting of 140,000 trees at the edge or in the heart of their plots.
The next planting Children and Trees will take place:

About the association
Inspired by her documentary films Le Champ des Possibles and Le Temps des Arbres, the director Marie-France Barrier sprouted in 2020: Children and Trees ; an association under the 1901 law, recognized as being of general interest, with the role of promoting the return of trees to the agricultural world, a symbol of reconciliation with the living and those who feed us.
Children and Trees invites studentsfrom elementary school to college, to plant an average of 250 trees per class with a farmer in order to effectively contribute to the necessary planting effort of rural trees in the territories. Because solidarity, pragmatic and responsible gesture, our objective is to participate in the return of hedgerows and the deployment of agroforestry. This agricultural practice which works with the benefits of the tree allows us to produce while protecting.
This civic and educational project offers children knowledge of the genius of the tree, the challenges of the agricultural world, the values of commitment, respect for living things, and the opportunity to be actors decisive factors in the ecological transition, by creating authentic links with those who feed us.
Together, the farmer, the child and the tree become the guardians of these common goods which are agricultural soil, water, air, the beauty of the landscapes, confidence in tomorrow!
